Generally a lot of women dread ‘that time of the month’ when your hormones are all over the place, physically it is a most uncomfortable stage and when even the most basic chores feel like climbing Mount Everest. PMS (premenstrual syndrome) or menstrual disorders are conditions that many women go through regularly. But there’s good news... it is keeping in mind the need for women to function as normally as possible during this period and to help regulate the menstrual cycle that we have launched our product ‘Sahana’.
In Indian languages the word ‘Sahana’ literally means ‘tolerance’. Ancient Ayurveda believed that the menses are a time when the female body provides extra energy to ensure cleansing and renewal. Accordingly, we have developed this menstrual formula that specifically supports, rejuvenates and comforts a woman's body as she passes through the delicate phases of her active fertile period.
Research suggests that the most likely cause for PMS is that women are sensitive to the hormonal shifts that occur in the second half of the menstrual cycle.
Researchers believe that hormones such as estrogen and progesterone affect women’s moods. They cause changes in the brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. Certain imbalances in calcium and magnesium levels may be a cause for PMS. In addition, excessive stress can worsen PMS symptoms. Poor nutrition is also one of the causes of PMS. (Ayurvedic gynecologists base their recommendations on the idea that PMS is a blockage of the normal reproductive energies called vata (Vata is the catabolic principle regulating degeneration, movements and stimulation). Sweets and sweeteners of all kinds pacify this kind of energy. For this reason, it is normal for women with PMS to crave sweets and it is highly unlikely to get good results from a low-carb diet during the menstrual period.
Menstruation is a delicate period for any woman to go through. It is during these times that she requires support, assurance and understanding the most. It is quite essential to maintain the integrity of her entire body's functions. A strong support network is the best long-term therapy for PMS. Proper nutrition and the right diet also help. Intake of proper herbs can help reduce the pain and discomfort considerably. Keeping all these factors in mind, the most ideal solution for such problems would be our product ‘Sahana’. ‘Sahana’ helps maintain the female hormonal balance, stops cramping and reduces acne, supports vitality and helps regulate menstrual activity.

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) : The primary active herb in ‘Sahana’ is Shatavari. The name means ‘one which has many roots’, refering to the remarkable restorative effect of the herb on a woman’s sexuality. Shatavari is to women what ashwagadha is to men. It supports a woman’s vitality, but is also useful for menstrual and digestive balance. Shatavari helps food digest quickly and keeps gas from building up in the colon. This relieves physical tension on a woman’s reproductive organs ‘just enough’ to avoid premenstrual symptoms. Anantamul (Hemidesmus indicus or East Indian sarsaparilla): Apart from Shatavari, Sahana includes the herb Hemidesmus indicus known in Ayurveda as Anantamul. It is also recognized by the name East Indian sarsaparilla. This herb is useful in reducing excessive bleeding and painful menstruation. Another characteristic of this herb is its ability to ensure a clear complexion. The essential oils present in the herb fight the bacteria that cause acne. It also contains amyrins and rutins (it is a yellow crystalline flavonol glycoside that can be found in various plants (such as tobacco and buckwheat) and is primarily used in medicines for strengthening capillary walls) associated with mental clarity and strong memory. Daruharidra (Berberis aristata): This herb is known as Daruharidra in Ayurveda. This herb supports the immune system by stimulating cells to fight infection without releasing inflammatory hormones. It helps balance the hormonal functions and also supports uterine functions. Pippali/Piper longum (or Long pepper): Long pepper is antispasmodic and acts a bio trigger.
